In May 2008 a decision was taken to restructure
Herefordshire Green Party by creating two branches which
reflect the constituency boundaries . It is anticipated
that this will enable more effective communication and
decision making , and encourage a dynamic local membership.
An initial meeting of the Hereford City and South Branch
was held on June 18th . Officers for the New branch will
be confirmed at the Herefordshire Party AGM on July.
The members who attended June's meeting had a preliminary
discussion on priorities for the new Branch, These
included: -
1. Establishing a forum for talks and discussions on
policies and philosophy to inspire members and potential
members
2. Supporting Jaqui Tonge as our prospective parliamentary
candidate and Councillor Gerald Dawes .Gerald’s outlined
his priorities as a councillor which were- to
establish reform in the conduct of the council, promote the
positive aspects of the Green agenda , be responsible and
responsive to constituents, challenge the council,
including on the renewed pressure for the Hereford bypass ,
and press the need for an alternative transport policy
3. Keeping day to day issues alive and providing
Green Party comment – though press releases and
letters to the local newspapers
The new branch will meet on the first Wednesday of
the month starting from Wednesday September 3rd, at Canal
Road Day Centre, Hereford at 7.30pm . Please note that
there was an error in the recently circulated Greengage and
there will be no meeting in July and August other than the
AGM.
